This is how we do it:
The sanding process starts with giving your floor a good clean and then taking out any tacks, staples, carpet grippers or unwanted screws and nails. For wood floor sanding we use a 98% dust-free belt sander. The appropriate coarse sanding grit is initially used to level and clean the floor out. Followed by, more progressively finer grits in order to make your floor as smooth as possible. The finishing process involves using specialist machinery – the mini edge sander – which eases to sand awkward corners and around radiator pipes. And finally the wooden floor is primed applying a top quality lacquer or oil.
1. PREPARATION OF THE FLOOR BEFORE SANDING
We will inspect the floor to ensure all nails are well below the wood surface. All loose board will be secured before the floor sanding commences.
2. HIGH-FILTRATION VACUUM
Removal of dry soil and particles that might cause damage to the wood during the floor sanding process.
Moving or damaged board replacement , nail punching, etc.
Filling gaps and holes with a floor dust and resin mix.
5. SANDING OF THE MAIN FLOOR AREA
The system we use is 99.9% dust free as we use an advanced extraction system. Different grit values on the bell sander will ensure a high quality finish.
6. EDGES AND DETAILED SANDING
Our edging sander delivers a uniform finish to your wood floor including all edges and hard to reach places such as under fixed furniture and radiators.
7. FINAL FINISHING: ROTARY SANDING
A super fine grit floor sanding system will deliver a superior and even finish to the whole floor area. This is done by means of a rotary sander.
8. FINE DUST REMOVAL
Highly efficient vacuum system is used for the thorough removal of any dust particles from the freshly sanded wooden floor.
9. LACQUER OR OIL FINISH (Choose option A or B)
A- LACQUERED FINISH:
Application of a Primer to the sanded floor followed by one coat of water based lacquer. Once the first coat has cured, the floor will be prepared for a further 2 coats of lacquer. Be aware that it will take up to 8 hours* for the floor to cure enough to allow light foot traffic. Furniture can only move back 24 hours* after foot traffic has commenced. (Avoid at all cost dragging furniture on a freshly lacquered floor surface.) * Curing and drying time depends on weather conditions and air flow.
B- OIL FINISH:
Two applications of hard wax oil on your wooden floor will deliver a beautiful natural finish that is moisture and dirt resistant. Be aware that if will take up to 4 hours* for the floor to cure enough to allow light foot traffic. Furniture can only move back 24 hours* after foot traffic has commenced. (Avoid at all cost dragging furniture on a freshly oiled wood floor surface.)
